Editorial: Uh-oh, they’re in trouble-A A +A

A WEEK or so ago, it was Technology Resource Center director Dennis Cunanan who made the headlines because of being in cahoots with the so-called pork barrel queen Janet Lim-Napoles.
Now another kabalen – Candaba Mayor Rene Maglanque – is in hot water after being charged, alongside former president and now 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, of plunder, in connection with the P900-million Malampaya scam while he was still undersecretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications.
Maglanque, as was reported, is a “signatory” to documents supporting payment of about P75 million to then Department of Agrarian Reform Sec. Nasser Pangandaman.
Cunanan, in a recent gathering with select mediamen, said his conscience is clear and that he had nothing to do with Priority Development Fund (PDAF)-related projects processed with the agency 2007 to 2009, which are now the subject of the case filed against Napoles and 37 other public and private individuals.
It was surmised he was trying to evade the charges against him because he left the country on September 13. He came back, he said, to “clear his name”.
Now, it is Maglanque who should make moves to “clear his name” -- which in this paper’s banner today he says, will happen “when the truth comes out”. He denies of any involvement in the Malampaya scam, and said the charges against him are without basis.
Columnist Ram Mercado clearly pointed out in his column today that both Cunanan and Maglanque are “GMA Boys”. Should we be surprised then, if their names pop out in such major issues such as the PDAF and the Malampaya scam?
