‘Iglesia’ Embarrasses Church with Big Crowds-A A +A

LAST Monday’s relief and medical mission of the Iglesia Ni Cristo was a whooping success in the number of participants and people served.
The activity also succeeded in embarrassing the bigger religious organization -- the Catholic Church and its support groups -- which invariably failed to convene similar huge mass of people in their Manila protest rallies or civic-religious action programs.
Due to the sheer volume of participants, City Mayor Erap, a known INC protégé, had cancelled school classes in the city to help the INC and maintain public order during the event. Will Erap do the same for CBCP-initiated demos?, Catholic laymen asked.
A similar mammoth INC gathering was the evangelical mission timed, unwittingly or intentionally, during the impeachment of CJ Renato Corona. The Administration succeeded in ousting the chief justice.
The recent mission was launched at the height of people’s protest and pocket demonstrations against President Aquino’s pork barrel system.
The Administration stands pat on the privilege of the president’s Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
Our cabalen are loudly wondering if President Noy, through the DAP and using funds from impounded government savings, can ransom the life of a Pampango death convict in Saudi Arabia. Perhaps he can spare some P40 million blood money out of the reported remaining P130-billion balance from the Malampaya funds.
Arguably if Pres. GMA were in the Palace, she would know what to do to save the life of an OFW facing imminent beheading. She was bold, she was resolute, and she was unforgiving in the practical use of public funds for humanitarian purposes.
GMA’s followers – especially those who take her as their hero -- can only wait until 2016 or a little later to see her (hopefully) in full freedom, though in poor health. Should DILG Sec. Mar Roxas be elected President, our chance of seeing her free is like winning the top prize in the Lotto. If it were Vice Pres. Jojo Binay who is voted President the chance of having her in freedom is like betting on jueteng. At least in this game one can win by “pompyang” or “tumbok.”
Regarding “GMA Boys” in trouble, former TRC chief and JC poster boy Dennis Cunanan seemed to have chosen the wise and practical way to secure his absolution from graft and plunder charges filed against him and other suspects. I heard he will act as state witness to bolster the cases against the main culprits in the Napoles fund scam.
Dennis has implicated Sen. Ramon Revilla and former Rep. Mikey Arroyo in two instances. The other suspect, Candaba Mayor Rene Maglanque insisted on his innocence. He is confident he could prove he was not the same person identified as co-conspirator of former DAR Sec. Nasser Pangandaman in a P75-million payment.
I express my condolences to City Councilor Rox Peña on the demise of his beloved sister last week, and to the family of our late colleague, Jerry Lacuarta of Manila Bulletin who was interred at “La Pieta” Memorial Park last Saturday.
Morning is God’s way of saying “One more time!”
Afternoon, He proves “You can do it!”
Evening He reassures “There’s still tomorrow!”
Enjoy your day with the Lord.
