YOU can hear the impassioned speeches of Mayor Marino "Boking" Morales citing the inroads gained in education for the citizens of the city. In all his Monday flag-raising ceremonies' remarks, you notice that he spices them with the development and trends of education. Such is his devotion to uplift the standards of education in his area that he would focus much of the resources of the city to education. He believes it is a good investment; that a secure future lies in education.

And so in 2008, the Mabalacat College was born to cater to the needs of poor but deserving students who need not go far to pursue careers in Education, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Information Technology and the latest, Customs Administration.

Installing Dr. Leonardo Canlas as the college president was a good choice as he believes in good management, a no-nonsense educator at the helm, with a feeling for the not-so-affluent members of society. A Board of Trustees oversees the management of the college.

Several students graduated with Education degrees and gone on to earn a living, and HRM and IT students will soon conclude their academic preparations.

At San Isidro in Dau is the Mabalacat National High School, where secondary education is being given students in preparation for college. Mr. Miguel Rivera presently oversees the operations of the school.

With the creation of the city via RA 10164, there arose a City Division of Schools steered by Superintendent Dr. Nicolas T. Capulong and assisted by three district supervisors from Mabalacat North, South and East Districts. Dr. Capulong is discipline personified and has no heart for hanky-panky attitude.

The literacy rate of Mabalacat City is at all-time high but the stakeholders are not taking any chances at improving it. More seminars and teach-ins are calendared.

Education is the centerpiece of Mabalacat City and the officials of the City are  investing heavily to promote it.

This week will see department and office heads defend their budget proposals. Each one will face a panel from the Sangguniang Panlungsod who will interpellate the proponents from every department of the city government.

From the SP, there will still be clarifications at the Sanggunian Panlalawigan.
