Atty. Gerome Tubig’s Firm Commitment-A A +A
Thursday, December 12, 2013
NOW that the presidents and officers of the municipalities’ Association of Barangay Councils (ABCs) have been elected in the province of Pampanga, comes the one who aspires to be the head of the Liga ng mga Barangay provincial federation.
Lawyer Gerome Navarro Tubig, the legal luminary who is also the Punong Barangay and ABC President of Barangay San Vicente in Macabebe, is said to be the next Liga ng mga Barangay President in the province.
The election for the league is set next week, December 18, that is. This early, speculations are abound that it will be Atty. Tubig who will get the throne. He deserves it anyway.
With his vast experience of being a three-termer captain in his barangay, he is ripe to lead barangays in the province towards growth and development.
He wants to be the voice of the barangays, expressing his plan to lobby before Congress the improvement in the compensation of barangay officials including benefits. Perhaps what prompted his plan is his being aware of the multifarious tasks of barangay officials in rendering basic services to their respective constituencies.
With this, he vowed to push for salaries, and not mere honoraria and allowances, as compensation for the officials of barangays who devote their time and risk their lives and health in the service of their people.
In addition, he vowed to move for the improvement of benefits of “barangay tanods” whom he sees make sacrifices in the fulfillment of their duties such as the maintenance of peace and order and manning traffic. According to Tubig, insurance and health care benefits should be given to them.
Should he win the provincial league’s presidency, he pledges to work out efficiently legislative works in barangays as he will represent them in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan as an ex-officio member of the board.
He wants quick and efficient delivery of basic services in Pampanga’s barangays as he believes that they deserve the leadership of the league who will work for them in fast-tracking programs and projects of the provincial capitol for the barangays.
As per information from the provincial government, a barangay office is planned to be established in order for barangay officials to have a venue for their needs and grievances. This office shall ensure quick facilitation of requests especially those needing swift action. Barangays will now have their new avenue in reaching out for their constituencies’ needs.
On his stand to the present provincial administration, there’s no doubt that he fully supports the capitol’s leadership. Should he be the victor by next week’s elections, he will be the partner of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and Vice-Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda in the delivery of services to the grassroots.
We expect him to work closely with the capitol on the latter’s programs and projects for barangays such as on solid waste management and the maintenance of peace and order in every barangay in the province.
As an experienced lawyer who worked for two years with Roco, Bunga, Kapunan, Migallos, Perez and Luna Law Offices in Pasig City, which was founded by the late Sen. Raul Roco, he is up and ready to practice his legal expertise in helping out barangay officials who are victims of injustice.
With his firm commitment to serve in the barangays’ provincial league, he sees nothing but what is good for every barangay in Pampanga, including his fellow barangay officials who were elected to serve the people they took an oath to serve.
Good luck to him and may he succeed with what he aspires for, in the name of furthering the services and firm commitment to the barangays of Pampanga.
