OFTEN overlooked, in a maze of things and activities, but is equally important, is the issue of nutrition of residents of Mabalacat City.
At the forefront of nutrition activities is the City Nutrition Action Council which is tasked with looking after the nutritional requirements and needs of the populace.
At the helm of the council is Socorro Lorena, a registered nurse and ably assisted by Josie Cayabyab, City Nutrition Program Coordinator, Hannah Camille Pasamonte, School Coordinator, Alan Basilio, RHU 1 Coordinator, Jerry Manaloto, RHU II Coordinator, Enrique Escoto, RHU III Coordinator, Eddie Basilio, Barangay/BNS Coordinator and Jemma Lyn Evangelista, Livelihood Coordinator.
The stakeholders include the barangay nutrition scholars, barangay officials and the city health officials.
Mayor Marino "Boking" Morales who chairs the Nutrition Committee, plays an active role in the promotion of nutrition activities among his constituents.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod likewise has a concern in the city nutrition program and its health committee is headed by Councilor Froylan Galang.

The City Nutrition Office is loaded with activities: field work, regular meetings and symposia, the latest of which was the Nutrition Month
Celebration with the theme "Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-sama
The mandate of the City Nutrition Council is wide and encompassing.
It undertakes an emergency feeding program in barangays with a high rate of underweight and severely underweight pre-schoolers.
Barangay Atlu Bola ranked first in this listing, based on the Health and Nutrition Profile of Pre-school children of Mabalacat City.
The latest symposium conducted by the City Nutrition Council was held on November 7, 2013 at the Human Resources Development and Training Center, Xevera, Mabalacat City. It was sponsored by the National Nutrition Council Region 3. The participants were pregnant women and lactating mothers of the City. The main objective of the symposium is to increase the number of breastfeeding mothers.
The theme of the symposium was aptly titled "Mga Inang Kapamilya at Kapuso".
The work of the City Nutrition Council of Mabalacat City is sustained and forward-looking. For this year, more comprehensive activities are calendared.
