OFWs to get Capitol livelihood aid

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The families of Kapampangan overseas workers and former workers abroad will soon get assistance from the Provincial Government to start their own group livelihood program.

Recently, Second District Board Member Anthony Torres, chairman of the committee on trade and industry, together with the Provincial Action Center for OFW Concerns (PACOC) met members of Sta. Monica OFW Family Circle Association, Ing Bayung Arayat Familiang OFW, Candaba OFW Organization, Misanmentung Pamilyang OFW ning Balen Mexico, Munang Takbang dareng OFW king balen Sasmuan, Guagua OFW Association, Sta. Ana and Floridablanca OFW groups regarding their livelihood proposals.

Among the proposed livelihood programs are mini-grocery store, furniture making using bamboo, crafts made of waterlily, corn husk making, and selling of seafood products.

"We will study and approve their livelihood proposals, and then the provincial government will give assistance so they can start their operation," said Torres, adding the provincial government headed by Governor Lilia Pineda will give them financial and technical assistance.

Torres also lauded the initiative of the OFW families in helping their relatives abroad earn a living.

Eliza Muñoz, PACOC chief, said they have been organizing the OFW families and former OFWs in the province to address their concerns including livelihood.

"Our office helped them from their groups in each town. It is now easy for the provincial government to locate the Kapampangan OFWs and their families for possible assistance," she said.
