VACATION -- It makes travelling better if you are with the family, and even better if you are accompanied by friends and political allies. It was agreed that in observance of the Holy Week that Angeles City Council will forego two regular sessions. So my colleagues packed their bags and flew to Cebu City last week and got their well deserved vacation.
Booked at the five-star Shangri-la Mactan, it was all fun for them as captured in the uploaded instagram photos posted on Facebook. I can surmise that subjects discussed were not only the hotel's perfect ambience, the amenities, the beautiful beach at the back of Shangrila but governance and political issues as well.
Mayor Ed Pamintuan knows how to take care of his family and political allies. I am sure the amount spent in that vacation is nothing to snooze about. But what is money when you are having fun. 'All work and no play make Jack a dull boy'
PORACAY -- I am not privy to the vacation plans of my two other colleagues who like me who belongs to the minority bloc in the council. Councilors Bryan Nepomuceno and Pogi Lazatin maybe laying out their respective travel plans which of the tourist destinations they will likely visit. Atty. Erika, Bryan's better half, is from Bacolod City and her family owns a large estate in a rustic setting there and a good option for husband and wife to visit while the city council is on recess.
Councilor Pogi might have some difficulty choosing which place to go. His dad, former Congressman Tarzan Lazatin owns vacation houses in Boracay and Romblon.
Me? I will chill at PORACAY. It is only a few minutes from my residence in L and S subdivision in Barangay Sto. Domingo in Angeles City. Besides, the owner Rogie Ayson is my friend and has an open invitation to me.
The place is inexpensive but a real treat to picnickers. It features several pools and the water is so fresh as it cascades from a pumped spring. It has villas for those who want to stay overnight.
CLARK IS IT -- Clark Freeport is not only a place of factories. It has tourist spots unmatched anywhere. The crown jewel of course is Fontana Leisure Estate. It features the most beautiful water park in the country today. It has two golf courses, several restaurants, a casino, a shopping arcade and hundreds of villas.
The Clark speedway roars with upgraded engines of fast cars. There is Paradise Ranch at the nearby Sacobia area. The picnic area near the Mabalacat gate features a zip-line and kids can have pony ride.
Book in advance for a table at Island Grill Resto for boodle fight among friends and family members in their Seafood Shack. Golfers can swing their golf sets at Mimosa while other family members can visit for bargain buys the duty free stores.
PERSONAL NOTE -- As it is now an ordinary joke, my good friend Jess Nicdao will achieve dual citizenship this coming Sunday, April 13. Jess will turn 60, yet he only looks 45 (ali siguro said Ferdie Beltran). Jess aside from a successful businessman is a man obsessed with public service. He is a former District Governor of Rotary International and current president of Shelterbox Philippines, the outfit that provides shelter tents to calamity victims. Happy birthday pare.
LAPID's BLESSING -- Senator Lito Lapid's house blessing in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City last Saturday seems to be the initial step for him to foray into Angeles politics in 2016. Several of the guests who came were former Congressman Tarzan Lazatin, Lawyer Willie Rivera, IC Calaguas, barangay captains and councilmen and some Angeles civic and business leaders. Lapid chose Anunas because of his strong devotion to St. Catherine of Alexandria, patron saint of the barangay, and his hometown of Porac.
