Kris and the Pacman

TWO national celebrities will vie for the top position in the senatorial elections in 2016.

These are boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and movie/TV actress Kris Aquino.

Pacquiao, also called "Pambansang Kamao", has been included in the senatorial line-up of Vice President Jejomar Binay who is running for president.

Kris, known as the "Queen of All Media", is reported to be a secret aspirant and a ceded timber for the Liberal Party’s senatorial slate with Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas as standard bearer.

With the immense popularity of the boxer and the actress, even the Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia will find it difficult to get a fair, accurate, and honest result from their poll opinion surveys.

The Pambansang Kamao, who had just regained his belt as welterweight champion is a revered folk hero. The Queen of All Media strongly retains her status as the darling of the masses after every controversial love affair.

If the Pacman had demolished his major opponents via knockout, Kris Aquino had disposed an equal number of lovers with her power blows. Her partner-victims seemed hardly to recover- not even really knowing what happened- after being dumped.

I think I can bet my bottom peso- plus a month’s salary of Rep. Oca Rodriguez- on Kris as the future topnotcher of the Senate polls in 2016.

Bong Lacson, Pampanga media leader, is afraid that Pacman’s money is more than enough to wipe all the tears that Kris could shed in the campaign.

The Queen of All Media is a great communicator. At 14 years of age she was an eloquent campaigner of her mother who would be elected president. She was already a darling of the masses then.

She has the genes for a political life. She got President Cory’s intelligence, sophistication and grace. She is almost recklessly fearless, articulate and ambitious like her father, the martyred Ninoy Aquino.

Extremely lovable with a stunning personality if she desires, and pugnacious when necessary, she has a massive following among the bakya crowd who love conflict and drama in reel or real life.

As dramatic actress she is adroit in the art of make-believe, skillful in evoking tears, pity, and fear. With these theatrics, it is not difficult to win the votes of the hoi poloi. Pacquiao can quote some biblical verses but has yet to learn how to shed crocodile tears.

Kris is a good political prospect in any public office but not a wife material. She seems to have a patent difficulty in establishing domestic stability while failing to get life together with her former partners.

Because she loves her personal freedom and independence, she puts prime to her career not only as a means of earning enormous income but also for self-respect and security for the future.

The power structure in the past domestic scene reduced the man in her life to second fiddle. Insecurity in her former lovers became an integral part of family life.

Her high net worth, the fruit of hard work and industry, both attracts and devastates her lover. After each affair ends, it creates a national convulsion. The men would be found gathering pieces of their shattered world.

Yet when she cries and dramatizes her exploited self and her discarded love, she becomes the nation’s darling. Her innate charm and intelligence, a politician’s guile, and theatrical dissembling reinforce her assets in winning votes and people’s belief to her cause.

Your choice – Pacman or Kris for the No. 1 position in the next Senate race?
