HAPPY Easter to each one of you!

What a wonderful rebirth for all of us who passed the pains and desperation. As Jesus Christ rose from the dead, may we also leap up from the clutches of the dark nights into a brighter Easter dawn.

I read a book entitled “A Seven Day Journey with Thomas Merton”. Written by Esther de Waal, it opened my eyes to the enriching mode of silence. Let me share with you its golden threads of enlightenment.

Silence

“Solitude is not withdrawal from ordinary life. On the contrary, solitude is the very ground of that life; simple, unpretentious fully human activity by which we earn our daily living and share our experiences with a few intimate friends...

Solitude is not found so much by looking outside the boundaries of your dwelling, as by staying within. It is not something you must hope for in the future. Rather it is a deepening of the present, and unless you look for it in the present you will never find it.”

Insight

Wow! The above lines blew my mind out of its usual pattern. At times, action precedes my understanding. I keep on writing, drawing and conversing with my associates, like a whirlwind, there is no time to be quiet. After reading from this book, I realized the value of contemplation. It is like a cool breeze fanning my thousand thoughts.

Even just about 30 minutes beginning each morning, I now reflect on my blessings. It is a golden way.

Thomas Merton.

Merton was born in January, 1915 in Prades at the foothill of the French Pyrenees in a room which proffered the majestic view of these mountains. His parents were artists. However, when he was six-year-old, his mother died of cancer.

On December 10, 1941, at the age of 26, Merton knocked on the gates of the trappist abbey of Getsemani in Kentucky. He asked that he be accepted. He had come home. He became a monk and never left this earthly mission.

His early death in Bangkok after his lecture left a void in the hearts of many.

Finale

You and I are one. Yearning for the grace of heaven you and I try to follow the Lord. What a rebirth for all of us. Blessed Easter to you and to your beloved family and friends.
