Flooding in the City

-A A +A

RESIDENTS and commuters who suffered horrendously from the traffic snarl arising from flooded streets last week had joined Angeles City officials in demanding the cessation of work slack by concerned government and partner agencies.

Earlier the city mayor and his chief of staff had met with DPWH and DENR regional officials along with local contractors and urged them to pull their acts together and cease from the “slow phasing and ineffectual response” in their respective work.

With public arousal of the socio-economic benefits that a bundle of city projects would bring, Angelenos are now concerned and involved in the fast implementation of the projects.

A list of Mayor Pamintuan’s infra projects include the much awaited rehabilitation of the Pandan road project. Barangay residents feel threatened by the onset of the rainy season as heavy diggings on the roads will become catch basins for floods.

The DPWH explained its predicament with right of way, electric posts obstructions, and tree clearing on the work site. Contractor Alex Bognot of JQG construction blamed the above agency for the late submission of the rehabilitation plan which calls for parallel drainage work.

Bognot also handles the rehabilitation of the West Circumferential Road from Paning’s place to the Westfield School in Cutcut. A lighting job for the 2-kilometer stretch is bided out.

The DENR seems shackled by environmentalists who oppose the required tree cutting in the MacArthur highway widening work from Brgy. Sto. Domingo to Barangay Ninoy Aquino.

A biker’s and walkers’ lane is being added to this stretch of the highway under the city engineer’s office.

Haidee Construction and BP Cruz contractors were asked to fast track their drainage building contracts.

While Mayor Pamintuan is gung-ho over the fast completion of his new projects, including the plaza Anghel, San Nicolas rotunda face lift, and traffic management, he demanded an equal attention to the beatification of the perimeter area around Clark. The participants to the APEC meeting at the former US air base will certainly visit the city passing through this 3-star hotel-lined site, he said.

The mayor wanted to showcase his city as a habitable center for fine living, investment, education, and sound environment, according to Cauguiran who is in charge of monitoring all infrastructure and allied projects.

Pamintuan rues he has little time to accomplish all these priorities until 20l6. But he is doing double time, and in around the clock mode, drives himself and his staff to achieve the doable

A police line-up of suspects in the Napoles list will comprise the following Kapampangan celebrities: Zeny Ducut, Mikey Arroyo, Rene Maglanque, Dennis Cunanan, and Oca Rodriguez, among others.

The inclusion of Cong. Oca in the line-up seems incongruous, according a source in the Archdiocese. There is no fraud in the man and his life reflects consistent integrity, principle, and patriotism.

This corner believes Oca when he said “I have never misused public funds.” Being a Presidential stalwart supporter, the Lacson list put the former CSF mayor in the marginal lines possibly as a demolition job to weaken his work as chairman of the House Committee for Good Government and Public Accountability.

The same smear job was initiated in the city council some months ago. Fernandinos rejected and refused to believe the allegations on the former mayor’s misspending public money.
