Sto. Tomas’ readiness for disasters-A A +A
Thursday, June 5, 2014
THIS endeavor is just proper and timely.
Mayor Joselito Naguit of Sto. Tomas has given its local police force the things the latter needs in time for the rainy season which usually brings floods to the town.
Cognizant of the needs of his town and with his concern over his constituency, the hardworking local chief executive has distributed search and rescue equipment to the Sto. Tomas Police as one of the preparations for the coming wet months.
It can be noted that Sto. Tomas has a number of low-lying areas that are perennially flooded, thus the propriety of the donated equipment.
The local police, headed Police Chief Inspector John Clark was much thankful for the support of the municipal government in terms of logistics and other police operations needs.
Personnel of the Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station had their morale boosted further because of the augmented equipment needed during times of flooding as they promised the enhancement of their search and rescue programs during times of disasters.
They received various rescue tools, gears and other implements including medical supplies for first aids.
Policemen in the country have multifarious roles in our country. Aside from the maintenance of peace and order in all corners of communities, they are likewise tapped in other tasks such as the management of vehicular traffic, the giving of security services to people, events and activities and also in disaster management programs of local government units.
While they perform other roles aside from their primary mandates, they do other tasks. Sadly, many police stations are bereft of many equipment, apparatuses and other things used in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
Most police stations are likewise underfunded, a hindrance in their police operations and activities. Consequently, many of them rely on local governments for financial or logistical support to fulfill their missions.
Local officials meanwhile, should really help their local police forces as they do important roles in every communities and one of which is during times of calamities.
Mayor Naguit for his part, is making sure that his policemen have the right equipment for them to do the right job now that we are nearing the onset of the rainy season. The occurrence of disasters is inevitable and part of serving the public is through helping the latter during deluge and other emergencies.
Likewise, the mayor is supportive of his town’s police on its anti-criminality drives. He is active in fighting crimes through his able police force.
“Ayaw na ayaw ni Mayor sa droga at sa mga iba pang klase ng krimen sa kanyang bayan”, said a resident of Barangay San Bartolome whom I recalled talking to a few months back.
Indeed, the town of Sto. Tomas is one of the most peaceful municipalities in the province because of the efforts of local officials and the local police in doing their mandates for the welfare of the people they serve.
The preparedness and readiness of the town’s officials headed by Mayor Naguit for the rainy is but a manifestation of the fact that they are doing their jobs and they are doing it well.
I hope that other local officials shall emulate Mayor Naguit in his laudable efforts of making his town safe and secured and man-made and natural disasters.
