IN OUR years of teaching elementary pupils, we have already been in situations which measure not only our caliber in handling lessons but also in coping up with problems that almost led our coolness into steaming hot potatoes. Anyway, that is the spice of teaching, jumping up over hurdles while filling up the bucket of youngsters into something that they cannot forget through the course of their life.

JUST when every Senate observer was teasing about Senator Manuel "Lito" M. Lapid's non-appearance on Senate deliberations and interpellations and instead spending most of his time on the lounge, the honorable gentleman from Porac has this time surprised his more prominent and articulate colleagues with his more sensible, doable and pragmatic bills. No frills, no retouches, just plain common sense from Leon Guerrero: doing away with every bag for school children and mandatory support to parents from grown-up children.

So, the kind of leadership employed by the school heads is significantly needed in the achievement of the school's total goal of increasing the school performance as a whole.

IT WOULD be five years now since that fateful day in November, 2005 when “Nicole” accused US Marine Lance Corporal Daniel Smith of raping her as his three companions cheered inside a moving van. In April last year, the Court of Appeals reversed the decision of the Makati court and ordered Smith’s immediate release, saying “a careful and judicious perusal of the evidence on record does not convince the prudent mind about the moral certainty of the guilt of the accused, hence, we must acquit.”
