CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Board (PB) disclosed Monday that it will spearhead the planting of trees in Mt. Arayat.

PB's aim is for greater environmental protection advocacies and to become role models in the fight against environmental degradation and global warming.

Fourth District Board Member Ricardo Yabut, chair of the PB's committee on environment, revealed to Sun.Star Pampanga after the executive session that they all have agreed to the tree planting activity set for next Monday.

"Mayroon na tayong three hectares na naka reserve doon para sa Provincial Government. Ito iyung area straddling the Magalang side. Doon tayo mag-uumpisa," Yabut said.

He said the PB has agreed on the early morning activity where thousands of saplings, as estimated by Yabut, would be planted together with the help of students, especially from the Pampanga Agricultural College.

"Malaki iyung area pero kailangan na nating magsimula. Anyway, okay naman ang mga kasamahan natin sa SP na magtulungan at maging role model tayo tumgo sa environmental protection," said Yabut.

He said the Provincial Government would hire people to maintain the trees and oversee their daily cultivation.

"May pondo naman tayo at iyun siguro ang ating gagawin upang tuloy-tuloy na ang pangangalaga sa ating environment. It will be a big step," he said.

He added that board members have agreed to hold their regular session there, as the residence of Vice-Governor Joseller Guiao is just nearby.
