A LOT of people are blaming climate change for the El Niño phenomenon and the scorching summer heat. Well, there are two things we can do about this situation. We can complain till kingdom come or do something now to mitigate global warming.

On April 22, the international Earth Day celebration, let’s commit something for mother earth. This year’s theme, “Hamon ng Panahon: Climate Change, 10 Milyung Solusyon (Kilos na! Ngayon na!)”, is a call for everyone to do their share in protecting the environment.

As part of the celebration, the Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNP) with 2009 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, Atty. Tony Oposa, launched the 10 Million Movement (10MM). This movement aims to gather 10 million commitments of actions to save Mother Earth.

Filipinos are urged to implement various green acts for the environment. Simple commitments such as turning off lights, brushing with the use of a glass, not littering, planting trees and many others are very important components of environmental protection and conservation.

To reach out to as many people as possible, SM Supermalls has agreed to allow the EDNP to set up sign up booths in all their malls. There will be Sign Up sheets as well as a list of 101 ways to a greener lifestyle which people can refer to.

Who may enlist in the 10 Million Movement? Any Filipino who will commit to effect personal behavioural change such as, but not limited to:
