Pineda said the country’s pride, Rosita Bradborn, won the Gold medal in the women’s single while teammate Maila Witheridge bagged the Gold medal in the Indoor Division or Merdeka category.

Both of them also won bronze medals in the ladies division together with team mates Ronalyn Greenlee and Sonia Bruce.

In the men’s division Ronald Lising, Leo Carreon, Angelo Morales and Christopher Dagpin won silver medals also in the said tournament.

John Knight, head of the delegation and representative of Pineda, said no less than 20 countries, including the Philippines, joined the Asia Pacific Championship held in Malaysia.

Knight said the Philippine Team was very fortunate to go up against the best Lawn Bowl teams in the world like Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia, England, United States and others.

He said winning 3rd place (Ladies) and 5th place (Men’s) is truly a remarkable feat, considering that the Philippine Team when head on with the best of the best in the world as far as Lawn Bowl competition is concern.

Robin Giale, head coach, said proper training and preparation was the key to their success, adding that they will try to do better in the upcoming competitions where they hope to capture the number one spot.

Giale said Lawn Bowl is one sport that Filipino athletes can truly excel since it does not require a tall height or brute strength but rather proper training, discipline and pure determination.
