Residents support ordinance vs noisy mufflers

MABALACAT -- Residents in several villages here were relieved by the enforcement of an ordinance prohibiting modified mufflers installed on motorcycles that produce loud and annoying sounds.

The local police started establishing checkpoints in strategic areas at the eastern part of the town last month, apprehending drivers of motorcycles with modified mufflers and other violations.

SPO2 Jose Almeda, police precinct commander at the Mawaque Resettlement Center, said they have been receiving support from residents in nearby communities including Barangays Mawaque, Sapang Biabas, Camachiles, and Dapdap.

Almeda said they have so far apprehended more than 100 drivers of both single bikes and tricycles with loud mufflers since they implemented the ordinance.

He said they enforced the ordinance following several complaints from the residents.
