Revenue office fetes 'Handang Maglingkod' awardees

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) awarded Friday the different revenue officers in Central Luzon who have made significant contribution and outstanding performance in their revenue duties under the annual "Handang Maglingkod Awards."

The Handang Maglingkod Awards has been recently institutionalized by the BIR to give due recognition to top performing revenue officials.

The Handang Maglingkod Search Committee is made up by partner organizations independent from BIR control.

This year's committee was manned by Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Regional Governor Victoria Gaetos, along with Joyce Duldulao and Marilyn Figueroa, both from the same organization.

Other members include Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants representative Romeo Torno and lawyers Ma. Lowellla Cezar-Benoza, Wilson Chua and Evalor Paulo from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

BIR Regional Director Romulo Aguila Jr. said the basic qualification of the awardees includes speedy performance of their duties and outstanding performance results as per-result of their performance.

The awardees include Revenue District Officer James Ferrer (Cabanatuan City); Revenue District Officer Abencio Torres and Assistant Revenue District Officer Esperanza Castro (Bataan); Lope Tubera (Pampanga); Revenue Officers Roel Narag (Subic Freeport), Alain Cunanan (Subic Freeport), and Evelyn Gonzales (Pampanga); Revenue Officer Bless Dizon (Pampanga); Revenue Officer Rogelio De Guzman (Nueva Ecija); and Danilo Palomilo (Pampanga).

Meanwhile, lawyer Johannes Job Fabello of the Legal Division, Rosario Arimado of the Administrative Division, and Bethrel Bautista of the Assessment Division were given special awards for performances in legal matters, general services and office audit respectively.

Top collection agents by district were also given special awards. These include Becislao Castro (Tarlac City), Nelia Dalao (Paniqui, Tarlac), Nerisa Valencia (Olongapo City), Alexander Yap (Bataan), Arnold Tolentino (N. Pampanga), Bless Dizon (S. Pampanga), Emily Galvez (Baler), Donato Alla (N. Nueva Ecija) and Emma Dizon (S. Nueva Ecija).

Also, district top performers based on collections from January 2 to June 30, 2010, were also recognized in the said event. Among the awardees are Jay Sicat (Tarlac City), Engracia Lacson (Paniqui, Tarlac), Sonny Aplonio (Olongapo City) Roel Vergel Narag (Subic Freeport), Mary Joy Espiritu (Bataan), Evelyn Gonzales (N. Pampanga), Danilo Palomilo (S. Pampanga), Rosemarie Dela Rosa (Baler), Apolinario Licaycay (N. Nueva Ecija) and Albert Javola (S. Nueva Ecija).

Aguila said the awards will also be the basis for the promotion and salary incentives of the said employees. He is also optimistic that with the said awards, more revenue officers will do better in their respective work. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
