Sabal, Madamba top 'Pulayan'


CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Multi-titled Philippine Army Special Services Unit bet Cresenciano Sabal and Philippine Navy stalwart Hazel Madamba ruled the revival of the early 80’s Ciudad de San Fernando Pulayan (running event) of Pampanga recently in front of City Hall.

Sabal took the lead in the U-turn slot at the San Vicente Chapel in Bacolor and never looked back to post the win with a modest 34 minutes and five minutes clocking. He was followed by fellow soldier Rene Desuyo (35:02) and coming in third was duathlete Augusto Benedicto of Paniqui, Tarlac.

In the distaff-side, Madamba posted a one-sided win by recording a 46:27 clocking with Tarlac City’s Anna Vargas (50:06) a far second and Police Trainee Lyn Layug (53:59) hanging to third.

Also honored by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, City Administrator Ferdinand Caylo, race director PNP Maj. Ferdinand Lansangan and the organizing San Fernando Runners Unlimited, Inc. president Ed Paez, were the 5-kilometer side event placers -- 1. Bowen Montecillo and May Benedicto, 2. Danilo Desierto and Annaliza Dysanco, and 3. Dannin Sanchez and Mary Rose Otchengco.

Hugging the Top 3 slots in the 3-kilometer Run were 1. John Alexander Razote and Vanessa Navarette, 2. Raymund Joren Abacan and Robilyn Arizala and 3. Manuelito Mondares and Charlene Magat.

A total of P27,600 cash prizes and trophies were awarded the Top 3 winners in the 3 categories to cross the finish in the featured 10-kilometer run, 5-kilometer and 3-kilometer side events. The organizing SAFER RUN will be using funds from said Pulayan in transporting Pampanga Runners joining Metro-Manila races to upgrade their capabilities in future national and international competitions. .

Specially-crafted medals, gift packs and other freebies were also awarded the fourth, fifth and sixth placers of the three categories backed by Amkor Tech Phils, Artforce Arts & Signs, United Engineers-Singapore, Macropharma Corp., Universal Robina Corp., RC Cola-Phils., Justin Cariel Aparrel, Pampanga’s Best, MILO Energy Drinks, Tanduay Distillers, Wellmade Mfg. Corp., Agua Vida, SM Supermalls-Pampanga, Land Bank of the Philippines and Hotel Victoria de San Fernando.

Special prizes were also awarded to the Biggest Delegation, PNP Fastest Runner, AFP Fastest Runner, Capampangan Fastest Runner, Senior Citizen Fastest Runner, Youngest Runner and Oldest Runner (male and female) in the event that is also supported by Mayor Rodriguez, Bacolor ABC president Jomar Hizon, Representative Dong Gonzales, Engineer Dennis Dizon, Kalayaan Riders, Bacolor Mayor Buddy Dungca, Councilor Amable Bengco and others.
