SM CITY Clark has once again taken steps to promote the importance of breastfeeding as the foundation of raising healthy and strong Filipino children.
The event, which was staged as some informal forum, was attended by a throng of mothers and would-be mothers who happened to get a wind of the important talk. Manning the stage was OB Gyne Dr. Angela Dy-Batac, who tackled the importance of breastfeeding.
Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency
Dy-Batac said the breastfeeding campaign will be totally successful if doctors help in urging would-be mothers to prepare themselves to breastfeed their babies, and tell them of the benefits and advantages of the practice. Meawhile, City Health Worker Dr. Lucille Ayuyao discussed pre-natal to post partum issues.
SM City Clark Public Relations Officer Venus Manalang said that the event highlights SM's commitment to promote good child nutrition among babies and their mothers. She said that such measures will greatly help in the awareness campaign on breastfeeding. According to the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), breastfeeding improves short and long term maternal and child health, and thus contribute to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MIDG) – reduce child mortality and improve maternal health - to which many countries and agencies are committed.
WABA also revealed that the Unicef recently noted that the reduction of child deaths from 13 million globally in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008 is partly due to the adoption of basic health interventions such as early and exclusive breastfeeding.
City Health Officer II Dr. Joven Esguerra, for his part, mentioned the closeness of every child to the breastfeeding mom as well as the initiatives being undertaken by the City Government of Angeles on proper breastfeeding during the event.
The said event is also in line with the celebration of the World Breastfeeding Week this August.
