Fernandino karatedos bound for national finals

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Five Fernandino "karate kids" -- the Fontanilla brothers and sisters -- are moving to the Karatedo Cup national finals in Dumaguete City on May 27 to 29.
The Fontanillas kicked their way to the top to win the 1st Governor Aurelio Umali All-Luzon Karatedo Cup last March 5 in Cabanatuan City and the 2011 Shotokan Karate International Federation Championship last April 9 at the Central Colleges of the Philippines in Manila.

The youngest Fontanilla, eight-year-old from China, won silver and a bronze in the tournaments. Jaspher, 9, was a back-to-back gold medalist, while 12-year-old Christian Jonathan won a silver and double bronze.
The older Fontanillas, Bryan, 13, was a gold and bronze medalist, while sister Marimar, 14, won back-to-back gold and silver medals.
For their feat, the Team Fernandino Tigers were accorded P50,000 by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, which they will use for their training for the national finals.
