Lawmaker leads grand sportsfest in San Pedro Cutud

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Third District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Sunday led the opening of the grand volleyball and basketball sportsfest in Barangay San Pedro Cutud here in a bid to promote sports as a wholesome discipline among local residents.
Gonzales was accompanied by City of San Fernando councilor Noel Tulabut, Board Member Dein Henson, Barangay Captain Remegio Dela Cruz and Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Richard Guevarra during the lighting of the sacred flame of sportsmanship.

According to Guevarra, the sportsfest aims to promote sports among the youth and promote healthy competition and camaraderie among the participating teams, organizers and local residents.
"We are very thankful to Congressman Gonzales because we can now hold our sporting and social events in the covered court that he had helped build," Guevarra said.
The sportsfest is an inter-purok competition and features basketball and volleyball games. Meanwhile, City Councilor Tulabut urged local officials to hold more sporting events in the future that would enjoin other sectors of the barangay.
During the event, Gonzales lauded the efforts of Dela Cruz and Guevarra in bringing together the community in a wholesome sporting event. He, however, reminded the officials to maintain an orderly and peaceful conduct during the games.
"We look at sports as a solidifying factor in the community. Let us make this event as something to be remembered," Gonzales said, adding that he will be shouldering the amounts needed for the prices of the event. Gonzales also gave cash prizes to all the muses that participated in the event.
Local officials also lauded Gonzales during the event for the construction of the Barangay Hall and all major roads in this once lahar-ravaged village. San Pedro Cutud is one of the heavily hit villages in the city during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.
Gonzales said he is set to fund the construction of additional roads and another basketball court here in the coming months.
