Angeles holds off-road challenge

ANGELES CITY -- The 2nd Mayor EdPam Cup 4x4 Off Road Challenge kicked off over the weekend, featuring enthusiasts and racers from other provinces and cities who showcased their skills in difficult challenges.
The event was organized by the Angeles City Sports Office (Acso) and the Angeles City Four-Wheel Drive Incorporated in line with the celebration of the month-long Fiestang Kuliat 2011.
Participants came from as far as Isabela, Cebu, Bataan, Davao, Bicol and Manila.
The race track was constructed at a vacant lot in Barangay Pulung Maragul, near the city hall and Marquee Mall.
Bong Collado of Isabela Extreme won first place in the said event.
Local favorites Omer Dunca and Lian Balatbat, both from Angeles City 4-Wheelers' Club, placed second and third, respectively.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, who came to flag off the first driver, said that despite the bad weather caused by typhoon Pedring, "the show must go on."
According to Rosever Pascua, city sports officer, "Angeles City dominated the off-road challenge. Many of our local racers were included in the top 20."
"The participants of the said event also pledged to assist in disaster and rescue operations by lending their vehicles," said Pascua.
Some other clubs include Pampanga-Off Roaders Club Inc., Del Monte Four-Wheelers, Bicol Off Road Club, Isabela Extreme, Team Castrol, Batac Off Roaders, Land Cruiser Club of the Philippines, and Kapampangan Off Roaders.
