SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija -– A 16-year-old lad with cerebral palsy from this city bucked his disability to win a chess tournament, giving the city extra factor to rejoice for the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
Joshua Pacio, a Grade 7 student of the Constancio Padilla National High School, is only able to facilitate his personal activities, concerns and necessities through his feet thus he moves chess pieces through them too.
Pacio’s elementary school teacher Maribel Tablo said Joshua is a very conscientious and hard working student and had trained for chess since his primary years.
Joshua’s present teacher Noemi Cariaga said he almost always gets hurt every time he loses his balance. But he never lets his being a person with disability be a stumbling block for him to excel and become a champion in chess.
