CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The University of the Assumption and the Holy Angel University shot and spiked their way into the top of the 7th Mayor Oca S. Rodriguez Inter-Collegiate Games 2013 yesterday and captured the basketball and volleyball crowns, earning them tickets to the Women’s-Men’s National Collegiate Athletic Association country championships in Davao City this May.
In action-packed games at the University of the Assumption Gym, the UA women hoopsters clobbered the HAU squad, 52-46 while the UA men basketeers outclassed an earlier explosive Colegio De Sebastian which gave way going into the second quarter and the never looked back at to clinch the title.
The volleyball matches were stunning reversals as the HAU women volleybelles walloped UA, 3-1, while the HAU men spikers proved too strong for the UA team, closing at 3-1.
Coming in at third spot in men’s basketball is the sneaky Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University which defeated a tall and stubborn HAU squad, 76-72, that saw clinchers in the closing seconds.
Other teams who saw action in the Oca Cup-WMNCAA Central Luzon leg were STI-College San Fernando, City College of San Fernando, and Holy Cross College-Sta. Ana.
