Village peacekeepers get mountain bikes

FLORIDABLANCA -- To equip barangay tanods with means to conduct patrol duties, Second District Board Member Edna David distributed 10 mountain bikes to Mabical village here over the weekend.

David turned over the mountain bikes to barangay captain Rolando David as part of her advocacy to promote grassroots peace and order and keep village roads well patrolled even in the wee hours of the night.

David said that she is distributing the mountain bikes to villages in the hilly portions of Porac and Floridablanca to better enable fast mobilization of village peacekeepers. She said the mountain bikes fit the terrain of the said village and are excellent means of transportation during patrol routines.

Three villages in nearby Porac town have received mountain bikes from David.

"Local peace and order is a public and government responsibility. Some barangays do not even have their tanods patrol their villages just because of the reason that their tanods do not have means of transportation, more so among bigger barangays," she said.

"It is never a reason to say that a barangay is peaceful, that is why there is no need to conduct regular patrols. It is better to come up with routine patrols and anti-criminality campaigns to provide some sense of security and order in the neighborhood," David added.
