LINGAYEN -- Multi-awarded broadcaster Maki Pulido of GMA 7 is joining the political race at the first district of Pangasinan.

She will be running for congressman and will be up against veteran politicians, namely; three-term (former) Bolinao Mayor Jesus Celester (older brother of outgoing Congressman Arthur Celeste), and last termer Board Member Danny Dizon. Pulido is from Anda town.

Her mother, Board Member Alice Pulido said GMA 7 Chairman Felipe Gozon gave Maki his blessings and wished her luck.

“Ang sabi daw sa kanya pwede siyang bumalik. Pero hanggat maari ay huwag na daw siyang bumalik dahil ang ibig sabihin non natalo siya,” she said.

The 37-year-old Maki has been in broadcast media for about 15 years. Accordingly, she filed her resignation at the television network effective last Monday.

“Madaming partido ang kumukuha sa kanya. Kinausap din siya ni Senator Manny Villar ng Nacionalista Party. But Maki explained to him that her mother is the provincial chair of PMP,” Alice remarked.

Maki’s father, Nestor, is the current mayor of Anda, a post he inherited from the board member who served as mayor at the said town for three terms.

Alice said she will slide back to her town and run for mayor while her husband will be their campaign manager.

“Natutuwa ang aming mga kababayan sa first district nong nalaman nilang tuloy na si Maki sa pagtakbo bilang kongresista. Now, she’s receiving a lot of invitations from different groups to grace their gatherings,” she said.

The young Pulido will be running under Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) of former president Joseph Estrada. Her mother is currently the provincial chairman of the PMP.

Celeste will run under Lakas-Kampi, while Dizon has taken his oath with the Liberal Party.

It is not clear yet though whom the Pulidos will support for governor between incumbent Governor Amado Espino Jr. of Kampi and former governor now second district Congressman Victor Agbayani of the Liberal Party.
