“Thank you for making Vigueños proud,” Medina said.

“I would like you to know that I consider it a rare honor and privilege to be able to directly serve my fellow Ilocanos.  Indeed, blood is thicker than water. As Regional Director of PRO1, I pledge to do my very best to be worthy of being called an Ilocano, particularly a Vigueño,” said Azares.

Azares traces his roots in Barangay Raois, Vigan, where he spent part of his younger years.

He recounted stories about his strict and disciplinarian father who was a military master sergeant.

During the testimonial dinner, his relatives City Councilor Loreto Quibilan and barangay chieftain Andres Adriatico spoke about the police officer’s family.

“Your success in your respective field is a source of inspiration and worthy of emulation,” Medina said.

Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, on the other hand, expressed gladness over the appointment of Azares and Alquiza in Ilocos Region.

“I am very happy for your appointment as regional directors,” he said.
