Mapandan Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. was the special guest during the opening program. He, together with Caburnay, did the ceremonial ball roll to signal the start of the competition.
Calimlim commended the Kiwanians for having a bonding time, not to mention keeping a healthy body and mind through sports.
He said bowling is also a good family activity as they usually did in the family when they were growing up.
"My father (the late Lt. Gen. Jose Calimlim) picks us up almost every day after his office work and we play bowling. It was one of my fondest memories," he stated.
True to their promise to gain back the champion's throne which they lost during the first holding Lt. Gov. Minnie Caburnay Bowling Cup, the Kiwanis Club of Baguio City came back with a vengeance.
They went home as overall champion. They also captured the Highest Team Single and Highest Team Triple events.
Runners-up were the Kiwanis Clubs of Amputi'y Layag (San Carlos City), Dagupena, and Sombrero Calasiao.
In the individual special awards, Susan Yadao of KC Dagupena and Oscar Saplaco of KC Sombrero Calasiao recorded the Highest Single Score. Yadao and Benjie of KC Alaminos City captured the Highest Triple Score.
Meanwhile, before the start of the games, Caburnay thanked those who sponsored the competition.
These include Calimlim, Abono Partylist headed by Founder and President Rosendo So, Kiwanis-Philippine Luzon District Past District Treasurers Toto Gonzales and Lolay Celeste, and Past Lt. Gov. Owen Reyes.
Caburnay said before her term ends on September 30, 2009, she plans to organize a tree-planting activity and picnic in Bolinao town.
Members of the different Kiwanis clubs under the Kiwanis International-Philippine Luzon District (from up north in Ilocos Norte down south in the Bicol region) will be gathering in Baguio City on September for the annual district convention.
District Governor Junie Nadal said that as of last count, there are 131 clubs with about 2,700 members. (LCMY/Sunnex)
