SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - The top most wanted person in Ilocos Region was traced and captured at his hiding place in Aurora Province by joint police elements.

Benson Alviento Suradio, 38, was arrested August 26, Friday afternoon, at Barangay Punglo, Maria Aurora town, Aurora province.

Ilocos Sur Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT) Chief Arbel Mercullo said Alviento has been the subject of Oplan Pagtutugis (campaign against wanted persons) and Oplan Salikop (campaign against syndicated/organized crime group).

Alviento is also the top most wanted person in Ilocos Sur. He carries on his head a Local Government monetary reward money of P250,000 for double murder aggravated by the use of illegal firearm, said Mercullo.

Mercullo said Alviento is allegedly the leader of the Rapada Group based on the 2011 first quarter target list of criminal groups that operates in the region.

The Rapada Group is allegedly engaged in illegal activities such as gun-for-hire, gun running and drug trafficking.

The CIDG-Ilocos Sur chief narrated that from August 22 to August 26, 2011, joint police elements from his unit as lead unit, the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office, CIDT-Aurora province, Candon City Police Station and Maria Aurora Police station conducted police operations at Barangays Punglo, Poblacion 1, Florida, Diaat, Basal, Dimanpudso, Bannawag, and Cadayakan all in Maria Aurora town; and at the municipalities of Baler and San Luis, all in Aurora province.

Accordingly, the known the addresses of the suspect are at Barangays Punglo, Poblacion 1, Florida, and Cadayakan, all in Maria Aurora town, Aurora province, and at Barangay Paypayad in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

At about 3 p.m. on August 26, Mercullo said CIDT elements collared Alviento at his hiding place at Barangay Punglo.

Alviento was brought to the 1st Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit here for proper documentation before his turn-over to the court concerned.
