Palarong Pambansa 2012 begins

LINGAYEN – Palarong Pambansa 2012 starts today, Sunday, with two events in the morning at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

Football games will commence at the Pangasinan State University-Lingayen with Caraga facing Calabarzon at 6:30 a.m. and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao against Northern Mindanao at 3 p.m.

Chess starts at 1 p.m. at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center, while boxing will open at 2 p.m. at the Lingayen Town Plaza.


The opening ceremony will be held Monday with a parade at 7 a.m. and a program at 10 a.m. President Benigno Aquino III will be the guest of honor.

The ceremonial turn-over of the Palarong Pambansa banner from Dapitan City Mayor Dominador Jalosjos Jr. to Governor Amado Espino will follow.

The hoisting of Palarong Pambansa, Department of Education and delegation banners will be done by selected members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines.

The oath of sportsmanship will be led by Christian Rafael Daroy, elementary taekwondo gold medalist in the Palarong Pambansa 2011.

The oath of officials will be led by Cesar Abalon, deputy secretary general of the Palarong Pambansa 2012 Technical Management and Administration.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office 1 Director Franklin Bucayu assured full security for all delegations.

He said police personnel are strategically deployed in all venues and billeting areas to ensure the safety and security of the participants.

It was earlier announced that the Lingayen beach will be off-limit to all players. A composite team is in-charged to secure the beach area.

Provincial Health Officer Anna de Guzman, meanwhile, said a medical team is assigned in each billeting school and at playing venues. (Sunnex)
