SAN FERNANDO, La Union -- A suspected leader of a private armed group (PAG) operating in the province of Pangasinan was arrested Wednesday morning in a joint police operation.
Also arrested and now a subject of further investigation and verification is a person who was at the house of the arrested suspect when the search warrants were served.
Ilocos regional police director Franklin Jesus Bucayu Jr. identified the arrested suspects as were Leonardo Sol alias Peter Sol and Marcelino C. Cardenas Jr.
Sol was identified as the alleged leader of the Sol private armed group operating in the province.
The joint operation was conducted early morning Wednesday by joint operatives from the regional, provincial and municipal police headquarters.
Sol along with a certain Renato Tarinay Jr. were subjects of a search warrant dated September 7, 2012, issued by the San Carlos Regional Trial Court.
Tarinay Jr. was not around when the search was made in his home, however, his mother Gregoria faced the raiding teams.
The raiding team recovered several high-powered firearms and ammunition from the house of Tarinay.
Authorities were checking if Cardenas is the same person as Jun Fabro alias Manok who is wanted for the killing of San Manuel Vice Mayor Bonifacio Ignacio Apilado sometime in June 20, 2007 and Engr. Christopher B. Alfonso last August 21, 2011.
Sol and Cardenas along with the confiscated firearms were brought to Pangasinan police office for the possible filing of cases against them. (Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre/Sunnex)
