Guvs, lawmakers entitled to cop escorts

DAGUPAN CITY -- Only incumbent governors and congressman are entitled to uniformed police or military personnel as bodyguards.
Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas said the candidates for vice governor down can only tap bodyguards from private security groups accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Salas said barangay officials, including government employees, are not allowed to take partisan political activities in this election.
He called on the people to report to the Comelec and its deputies any barangay official or government employee undertaking partisan political activity so that they can be charged for violation of the election code.
Salas also announced that beginning February 12, the poll body will start posting the list of qualified voters in the barangays.
He said the latest list showed that there are 1,651,000 registered voters in 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan, including 98,000 voters in Dagupan. (PNA)
