LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The province of Pangasinan is expected to attain an economic boom with the expansion of its Lingayen Airport for it to qualify as a domestic airport.
This after the Provincial Board approved a resolution authorizing Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the owners of the lots adjacent the airport for the purchase.
The resolution approved by the Provincial Board during its special session last August 23 authorized Espino to sign the MOA with the owners of lots, who agreed to the sale so that the runway of the airport can be extended.
The expansion program will include the development of about 455.23-meter runway extension that will accommodate commercial flights.
The runway which stretch 1.17 kilometers (km) at present will soon be around 1.63 kms.
Provincial Administrator Rafael Howard Baraan said the completion of the project will allow flights from Manila going to or from various destinations like Hong Kong, Taipei and other places.
Provincial Planning and Development Officer Benita Pizarro said: “The project will likewise trigger economic development in the province, increase tourist arrivals that will spur tourism and enhance business activities.” (PNA/Sunnex)
