THE Provincial Board (PB) of Pangasinan has passed a resolution which seeks for a more sincere public apology from ABS-CBN over the latter’s television report last February 24, tending to make it appear that a fleece-eating bacteria disease was spreading in the province.

The resolution authored by Board Member Anthony Sison, chairman on health, and Alfonso Bince Jr., chairman on the committee on laws, declared that the public apology of the television station on the night of February 26, is not enough considering the magnitude of destruction that the unfounded TV report had caused to the province and its people.

Because of the fear and stigma that the report created, Board Member Raul Sison said people seemed to be reluctant to go to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH), where two patients were reported being treated as having been afflicted with a mysterious disease caused by a fleece-eating bacteria.

The two were Mary Grace Clasara, 22, of Sta. Barbara who is suffering from drug reaction to leprosy medicine she was taking for more than one year now, compounded by her anemia and malnutrition; and Alex Maganes, 19, of Villasis, who is suffering from psoriasis and arthritis, which is the reason he cannot walk.

Sison said most affected by the report is the province's tourism industry as tourists cancelled their trips and reservations in hotels and inns in Pangasinan.

He said that the apology read on news program "Bandila" apologized for what happened, but did not mention that they committed error in coming out with the report.

He said the TV station said it is now investigating the report, but did not admit it was at fault.

Bince said they appreciate the apology made by the TV station, but on the other hand, he said that "the damage has been done." (PNA)
