AGUILAR -- A 332-meter long boulder bank protection will save the lands in Barangay Bocboc, Pangasinan from getting washed out by the rampaging water of the Agno River on rainy season.

Second District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil, who was accompanied by Agno Flood Control Office (Afco) engineers, inspected Tuesday the P20-million boulder protection project.

Afco Engineer Alex Reyes said the boulder protection, which was constructed from January 2 to March 23, 2014, measures 2.8 meters in depth and 8 meters in slope distance.

Village chieftain Ronilo Pormintira said the project has helped over 500 households in protecting their respective properties, crops, and livestock.

Other villagers attested that before the dike was created, they were always fearful that their homes will get submerged in the river whenever it rains.

Bataoil said they are hoping to get more funding for the next phase of the project, which will cover the expansion of the boulder bank protection to almost 400 meters distance.

Afco engineers are also hopeful to implement the dike-expansion project within the year. (PNA)
