LINGAYEN -- The provincial chapter of the Samahang Magdalo, a non-profit volunteer group, thanked Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. who assured them immediate completion of their headquarters in Carmen West, Rosales town.

The request was granted after 31 officials and members of the Magdalo group led by Retired Master Sergeant Victoriano G. Bullanday of the Philippine Army paid a courtesy call on the governor last May 13 at the Provincial Capitol.

The Samahang Magdalo chapter is composed of 28 sub-chapters in 25 towns and three cities, with more than 100,000 members from the ranks of retired and active Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, employees of various government agencies, as well as members of non-government organizations (NGOs).

The organization is prodding the Filipino people to become responsible and productive citizens of the country, and vigilant in the aspect of good governance.

Bullanday, who is the provincial president of Magdalo, said the group’s provincial chapter was established in 2009 initially with few members mostly from the military.

“With sincere belief to the advocacies of the Magdalo group, the membership rose up in the past three years,” he added.

A resolution was handed by the Magdalo group to Espino requesting for the urgent completion of their headquarters for them “to better pursue the organization’s noble purposes, goals and objectives.”

Governor Espino, a retired colonel of the Philippine National Police who once served in the Philippine Constabulary, vowed to help the group in their activities and programs, which generally benefit Pangasinenses, especially the underprivileged sector.

He, however, asked them to learn the Pangasinan Hymn and live with its meaningful message as the province’s official mantra that highlights the distinct Pangasinan cultural identity and heritage, and the glorious transformation of Pangasinan in the past seven years from being a non-entity into a best-performing province in the country.

“We thank him for his support to the group. Our strong presence is our way to make him feel our unwavering support to his administration,” said Magdalo Chapter president Ma. Aurora Morales of Mangaldan, referring to Governor Espino.

“Malaki ang pasasalamat ng Magdalo group kay Governor Espino para sa naitulong nya sa pagpapatayo ng aming headquarters, (the Magdalo group thanks Gov.,Espino for the big help he gave to us),” she added.

Aside from the self-sustaining scholarship and employment assistance programs the Magdalo provides for free, the group also focuses on activities to connect people through its program “tulong-tulong sa kaunlaran” advocacy, Morales said. (PNA)
