SAN MANUEL -- Former senator Francis Pangilinan, now presidential assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization, and Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. led on Friday the ribbon-cutting marking the inauguration of the Re-regulating Pond Phase I project at the San Roque Dam here.

The project, considered as the country's biggest irrigation project is an integral part of the Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARIIP).

Built at a total project cost of P13.45 billion, the re-regulating pond project was financed by the China Exim-Bank under its Buyers Credit Facilities.

The project will store water releases from San Roque Dam during its peak power generation to be utilized for irrigation.

Assisting the former senator and the governor during the inauguration were sixth district Representative Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, National Irrigation Administrator Florencio Padernal and Abono Partylist founding chairman Rosendo So and other guests.

The project will assure year-round irrigation water for the sixth and fifth districts of Pangasinan and parts of the fourth and third districts serviced by the Agno River Irrigation System and the Lower Agno irrigation System. (PNA)
