Official: NPC to back Escudero still

DAGUPAN CITY -- Abono party-list founding chairman Rosendo So believes that the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) would still support Senator Francis Escudero if he finally decides to run for president.

"Because NPC has no candidate for president, the party would still adopt him as guest candidate if he decides to run for president," he added.

The official issued the statement at the weekly Engkwentro sa Lenox of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC).

He said the matter was discussed and agreed upon during the emergency meeting of NPC last Wednesday (October 28) at Club Filipino after Escudero announced his separation from the party.

"Present in the meeting were Tomas Joson of Nueva Ecija, a group from Davao, Congressman Mark Cojuangco, Tito Sotto. Don sa huling usapan, walang i-endorse na presidente ang NPC dahil kung tatakbo si Chiz siya pa rin ang tutulungan ng NPC," he explained.

Abono party-list, So in particular, is staunch is a staunch supporter of Escudero in the province of Pangasinan.

Last July, he spearheaded a one million "Chiz for President" signature campaign in the province.

He said they were able to reach the target before Escudero turned 40 years old. "The people signed because they want Chiz to run for president."
