Province, Dagupan City bagged national awards


LINGAYEN -- The accounting office of the province of Pangasinan was one of the three provinces all over the country cited as “Most Outstanding Government Accounting Office.”

The award was given by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) Inc. during its yearly convention seminar in Bacolod City last October 12.

The award is a result of the office’s exemplary performance that includes timeliness of reports, accuracy, and quality of financial statements.

It was received on behalf of the Provincial Government by OIC Provincial Accountant Marilou Utanes.

On the other hand, the Dagupan City Library is second best (out of 86 city libraries) in the 2009 Search for Outstanding City Library nationwide.

The city libraries were evaluated by the National Library of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, National Committee on Library and Information Services at Philippine Librarian Association, Inc.

City Librarian Rufina Meneses said the city library is open from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays, giving the students so much time to do research work thereat.

The library houses more than 16,000 books allocated by the National Library, the City Government, and donations from different organizations. It also has daily subscriptions of newspapers and provides free internet service with its 10 units of computers.

Meneses thanked Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and the other officials for continuously supporting the needs of the library to better its service to students.

The city library is strategically located at the Dagupan City Astrodome. Located nearby are the Dagupan City National High School, Lyceum Northwestern University, Edna’s School, La Sallete and several other schools. (LCMY/Sunnex)
