Ray-An Fuentes sings for Sta. Barbara youth

THE STA. Barbara police has employed another approach to further drumbeat its relentless effort to keep away the town youth from fraternities/gangs, illegal drugs, smoking, and drinking.

The most recent was a concert by Raymond Anthony Fuentes (popularly known in the music industry as Ray-An Fuentes), a socially-oriented singer, song writer, and stage performer. The concert was held last Friday.

Sta. Barbara Police Chief Eric Noble said the campaign kicked off with the burning of an effigy of "Mr. Bad Influence", which symbolizes a monster that turns good students into monsters like him.

"The ceremonial burning signifies the defeat of the monster by the youth and community members who support and protect the welfare and future of these youngsters," he said.

The event held at the Daniel Maramba National High School (DMNHS) was attended by hundreds of DMNHS students and teachers, members of the local police and gospel ministers based in the town.

The highlight was the concert of Ray-An Fuentes who prepared a special repertoire of songs for the youth.

"The campaign against illegal drugs, fraternity gang violence, smoking, and drunkenness is a collaborative and relentless fight," Noble said.

"I thank Patmos (Pastors, Teachers and Ministers Association) for helping us bring a topnotch entertainer as Ray-An Fuentes to join us in our youth advocacy. Really, the community is our vital partner in all our campaigns and programs to maintain peace and order in all corners of Sta. Barbara," he added.

The Sta. Barbara police, in cooperation of DMNHS officials, earlier launched the Values Orientation in Classroom Education (Voice) program that aims to discourage students from joining frat gangs and other vices.

The launch was made following the apprehension of 16 high school students for conducting initiation rites. The initiation leader was charged with violation of the Anti-Hazing law.

"The cooperation of the teachers led by Dr. Catalina Cabansag is highly commendable. We are doing our best to keep this good working relationship, not only with the said school, but also with the other sectors here always in high-esteem for the good of our people and of our town," Noble said.
