WHILE the fans of the Popstar Princess have been overjoyed upon learning that their idol is in a relationship with Kapamilya actor Matteo Guidicelli, some have expressed reservations that the admission could just be a publicity stunt.
Last month, a number of viewers were shocked when they heard Kapamilya singer-actress Sarah Geronimo confirming her relationship with a fellow Kapamilya artist in an interview with ABS-CBN's Sunday showbiz talk show, The Buzz. Though, rumors about them were already circulating since January.
"O sige, sasabihin ko na po. Boyfriend ko po si Matteo," she said.
Sarah even admitted that their term of endearment for each other is "Mahal."
The initial reaction of viewers can be associated to the well-publicized standpoint of her parents, especially of her Mommy Divine, when it comes to having a romantic relationship. It can be recalled that her supposed romance with Rayver Cruz and Gerald Anderson didn't push through due in part to the alleged negative opinions and restrictions of her parents, particularly that of her mother's.
So when the 25-year-old Kapamilya star revealed that Matteo is already her beau, a number of people couldn't believe that she was actually doing such move.
As for Matteo, he shared on his interview with Yahoo! Philippines that the courtship wasn't easy and he needed to hurdle some challenges.
"There were lots of challenges. But I didn't let it affect me because Sarah is worth it," he said.
When asked how she won the heart of Sarah, he said that it was through his closeness with the parents of his lady love.
"In any relationship, it's important to be close to the parents of the person you love. Positive ang environment you are working on," he said.
With the photos of the couple being posted and shared online, you could really say that they are definitely proud and happy of their relationship.
However, some netizens (and some of my friends, too) expressed apprehension over the admission.
Their argument is "why only now?" This argument, though, could mean two things. One, it could mean that they are questioning why Sarah only had the courage to admit a relationship with someone just now. Two, it could mean that they have a hard time believing about relationship going on between the two because of their late admission.
They are actually thinking that something (a joint project) is brewing.
"I won't be surprised anymore if they will be out on TV again promoting their team-up in a movie or a teleserye," one friend of mine commented, which I even contested because I could really see the love in their eyes during interviews.
Another friend said that "those photos could just be choreographed. The interviews? Ang daming director na pwedeng gumawa n'yan."
Well, let us wait for any developments in their romance. And hopefully, this is not just a publicity stunt because if it is, both of them, especially Sarah, could lose a number of followers. As it is, Sarah is being idolized by many because of her personality - sweet and someone who truly gets the heart of people because of her honest stance.
