Excellence

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31

THE quality of a man’s work reflects his nature, his standards and his values.

As they say, “Your work is who you are.” On a higher note, excellence would not be a choice if one knows that everything he does is for the glory of his Creator.

The quality of one’s work makes his trademark as a person. As success leaves traces, excellence also does. The work of an excellent man leaves historical paths, making excellence his trademark. All works of his hands will be attributed and measured to his excellent performance in the past. As a result, people would expect that everything that comes out from him and everything that he does will be excellent.

Excellence is embedded in the DNA of Filipinos. As a people, Filipinos are known for the good quality of their work output. That explains why we are in demand in every field of endeavor locally and abroad.

In fact, many countries hire Filipino workers because of our competencies and excellent quality of work. Not to mention that hiring Filipinos means hiring people who could produce bricks even without straw. Because of the flexibility of our nature, we work well with every situation, with or without the right kind of tools, notwithstanding the kind of workforce around us, not to mention the climate we work in.

But despite the excellence that we possess as a people, why are we still living in poverty? Should not excellent people impact their surroundings with the excellence that they carry? If we claim to be an excellent race, why is the quality of our life not commensurate with what we profess? What are we doing wrong? Could it be that excellence also has a counterpart in the negative, that we also do bad things excellently?

This is not the time to point our fingers on the government or any person whom we think is responsible for our state. In times like this, excellent people do things differently. Excellent people rise up and arrest the decay and decline in the society by the quality of the life they live. After all, excellence is also an attitude. It is how one responds to the challenges and limitations of the environment in order to produce quality results. It is amazing to note that despite the state of our nation, some of our kindred are rising up to bring fame to it.

How about us? With the excellence we possess, what can we do to bring fame to our nation and above all, to our Creator? As we are created in His image and likeness, we are expected to exude the excellence that He carries. Our aptitude, skills and talents may vary but we excel in one way or another.

What have we done so far to show that we honor our Creator by what we do? Should we make excellence our choice?
