Tightest security during Kadayawan

"AS TIGHT as humanly possible" was how Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte described the security measures authorities will implement as Dabawenyos mark the weeklong Kadayawan sa Dabaw starting Monday.

Crowd-drawing events are lined-up during the festivities, including the "Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan," floral float parade, the live staging of the star-studded noontime Sunday show Asap, street parties, free concerts, among others. (full story)

SUPERVISING the Kadayawan festivities is one big task that require a leader who can direct everything that's going on, especially on this 20th Kadayawan Festival when just about every facet of Davao is being celebrated -- indigenous and contemporary culture, arts, music, agriculture, food, games, nature, trade and development.

But for this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation Inc. (KSDFI) president Arnold D. Navales, planning the events in the Kadayawan festivities was not so difficult to handle. (full story)

THEY were forest people who under stood and respected the land and the creatures that live in it. They knew each forest creature by name and respected them and feared them for the power they have over people.

Even their musical instruments represented the sound of nature. The kubing, for one - that thin bamboo instrument placed in the mouth and tapped with the fingers to make music with -- is the sound of birds of prey. (full story)
