Comelec to okay proclamation of new Isabela guv
ISABELA province will soon have a new governor once the seven members of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) sign a resolution giving the go-signal for the proclamation of the province.s chief executive.
Commissioners Resurreccion Borra and Mehol Sadain sought the lifting of the temporary restraining order (TRO) against Grace Padaca, who won in the gubernatorial race last 10 polls by 40,000 votes against incumbent
Gov. Faustino Dy.
The resolution, penned by Sadain, is being circulated among the commissioners to finally proclaim Padaca as the rightful winner and governor of Isabela.
.Hopefully, the resolution would be promulgated by Friday, then we will move the proclamation to Manila,. Borra said.
Last Saturday, the first division of Comelec headed by Borra with Commissioners Virgilio Garcillano and Rufino Javier as members issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) stopping the proclamation of Padaca.
Commissioner Borra did not sign the TRO. He refused to comment why Garcillano and Javier approved the TRO when there is an existing policy that states any election protest would not be allowed to block the proclamation of a winning candidate.
Borra said the resolution lifting the TRO would only be valid and effective if all the seven members of the Comelec en banc would sign the resolution.
Supporters of Padaca staged a protest in front of the Comelec main office in Intramuros to demand the proclamation of their winning candidate. They urged the commission to immediately act on the case of their candidate since there is enough evidence showing that she defeated Dy.
