THE murder of Atty. Arbet Sta. Ana-Yongco, a person of principle and courage, has distressed us all, especially those of us associated with the administration of justice. Atty. Yongco was handling a number of high-profile cases, and so the act was almost certainly meant to stop her in her campaign against violence, especially to women, and no less directly, by way of threatening them, the prosecutors, judges and lawyers—those who work to move the wheel of justice.

We urge the authorities to show determination and quickly to get to the bottom of the murder and catch the perpetrators—from the assassin to the mastermind—so they will not continue to make a scarecrow of the law
