Medical Center's surgical

Jan-jan, a gay florist, underwent surgery on January 3, 2008 at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City for the removal of a body spray canister from his rectum.

The procedure caught media attention when videos of the surgery were circulated through camera phones and the Internet after a medical student uploaded it to YouTube, a video-sharing website.

The video showed a team of around 10 doctors and nurses hollering and laughing, especially when the canister was successfully removed.

The Sun.Star website has provided space for the discussion of this surgical scandal.

Going straight to my point, if genaro jorolan is looking for justice against VSMMC medical team for the alleged case of violation to his privacy as a patient, BUT, how about the dignities of so many people he hired for sex and he violated of their privacy as his customers since the beginning until now that he is 39 yrs old? He cannot even recall the face of his victim who inserted the cannister into his anus coz he claimed that he was drunk at that time when it happened. so, what kind of dignity he is looking for justice when in fact, that it is very clear that he himself don't care for his dignity for hiring any strangers who is willing to do what he wanted? Luod kaayong paminawon nga ang tawo nga dautan ug binuhatan pinaagi sa sekreto, magpagarbo nga siya gibinuangan sa publiko...

jan-jan has the right to pursue his rights, people who did that kind of wrongdoing must face a severe punishment. We don't know if it was the first ever happened co'z other victim/s were just silence afraid of shame.

totally unethical, it is a disgrace to those medical professionals..where is the work ethics? the professionalism? patient's respect, it totally violated the patient's rights to be treated with respect & care...the news spread all over the world, here in the US the Filipino Medical Workers are known for hardwork and work ethics, the entire scandal really ruined the reputation of the Filipino Medical Professionals... Totally unacceptable and its a shame to those medical professionals whose role is to care for the patients...

For me, VSMMC's medical team is not responsible nor guilty of anything, wether you like it or not!!! They should be praise instead for a job well done saving life. If they laugh, well, its understandable coz they got mouth and its normal reactions to witness a very disgusting situation of whom genaro jorolan allowed to happened on himself. Medical team did not took nor upload the video in You Tube, but why charge them with violation to patient's right to privacy? If they lose the case against genaro jorolan, it's a great big insult to the best defense criminal lawyers in town. If there are people who deserved to be blame in this issue, it's pretty sure its the person who uploaded the video and genaro jorolan himself, who claimed to be drunk at that time while allowing somebody to insert something stupid in his anus. Can you imagine how many dignities he has truly violated now at his ripe age of 39 since then? He claimed he was raped... WHAT??? raped??? talk to my hand, anyway, your dirtied dignity can be wash clean by big amount of money. Lastly, this issue is not really worth but only wasting time and money of the tax payers expenses in court...

For Akona Akona, you are so broad minded and are able to see the correct aspect of things. Thanks for people like you. And as to the narrow-minded people, it's sad that you easily believe on what the media want you to believe. Use your brain and don't rely on the brain of others. We still need good doctors and nurses in our country and I still believe the surgical team consisted of these good doctors and nurses. As for those who laughed and violated the code of ethics, we can do without you.

Unya unsa may kataw anan ana. Akung tambag ninyo, ayaw ug dad-a ang tanan, kun dunay nasipyat nga usa.

The members of the surgical team should not be judged on the basis of an unauthenticated video footage. How could they have laughed when their mouths were covered? Shallow minds condemn without investigating and without thinking. It is a fact that the footage was taken from the standpoint of the spectators which means that the noise captured were from their side and not from the doctors doing the surgery. How did all these people get inside the OR in the first place without anybody regulating them? The surgeon had no control over who came in the OR because his focus was on the procedure. Tagging him responsible for this is just unacceptable to any individual with reasoning capability. He was responsible for the procedure and not for any other non-medical function. VSMMC is a learning facility and allows students to watch. This being so, somebody should have have been in charge for controlling the crowd and certainly, this job does not belong to the surgeon! This just shows the hospital's lose control and mismanaged policies. By trying to get away from the blame, they point their fingers at the poor surgeons and nurses who were just doing their job. My heart goes out to those doctors and nurses. Thank you for staying in the Philippines because we need people like you to stay in our country. For the management of VSMMC, stop blaming your employees and look at the actual picture. And for those students who watched and laughed, they should be the ones convicted. And most of all, don't forget about the unfit student who took the video footage for that's where all these started.

what saddens me with the Vicente Sotto fiasco is the fact that nobody in right mind stood at the time, and really voiced out that what happened was wrong. Someone there may have felt that something is wrong, but didn't have the nerve to stand up and say it. It takes a lot of courage to go against the flow, to resist peer pressure and all the like. I have now fully understood what my lola once said, that the greatest tragedy of our time is the the fast disintegration of the moral values of the youth. Such a big challenge for parents to raise kids who are able to discern strongly what is right and wrong in a given circumstance.

maayo unta nga ma kasohan ug ma priso ang tanang nahilambigit sa kaso... it's getting out of control and doctors' are like god's here in cebu... abosado ra sab kaayo nang mga doktor... not all but kadaghanan

this is not a new issue but allow me to express my views this late. there's no need to argue about this case. this is a clear violation of a patients right and a disrespect on a humans life. people doesn't need to be ignorant and arrogant about their reactions. in the first place, personal opinion is not needed in here. it's a violation and violators should be prosecuted. it's that simple...
