THE country's premier beach volleyball event kicks off its Mindanao leg elimination today, Thursday, at the world-class Paradise Park and Beach Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal.
Alabang grabs one-point lead
ALABANG fired 124 points to open up a one-point lead in the championship division at the start of the 65th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub Golf Tournament Regular Men's play Wednesday.
Santiago Lorenzo led the surprising Alabang assault right on the first round of competition with 33 points, while Miguel Shah and Andres Saldana added 32 and 33, respectively at the world-class Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club as the team built a one-point lead over defending champion Del Monte and last year's runner-up Cebu Country Club.
Basti Lorenzo was the other scorer with 28.
CMU wins UP Min women’s footfest
THE Central Mindanao University (CMU) of Musuan, Bukidnon emerged champion at the close of the 15-Up University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao Women's Footfest in Mintal over the weekend.
CMU garnered a total of nine points with a clean 3-0-0 win-draw-loss slate in the single round-robin format tournament.
UP Mindanao A grabbed the runner-up honors by edging fellow four-pointer Faith Academy via higher goal difference. Both teams held identical 1-1-1 card.
Faith Academy placed third instead while 0-0-3 UP Mindanao B finished fourth.
DRANHS, CDSI rule UNO 3-on-3
THE Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) and Colegio de San Ignacio (CDSI) captured titles in the just-concluded Unlimited Network of Opportunities (UNO) 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the Gaisano Grand Citimall Sky Gym.
DRANHS defeated Emar Learning Center via shootout in their under-15 cadet finals while CDSI nipped Davao Christian High School (DCHS), 12-11, in under-13 mini division.
DRANHS and Emar were tied at 9-all at the end of regulation but the Matina-based dribblers edged the latter with a 3-1 win in the shootout.
Medvil, U13 Davao down rivals
THE Medvil FC and U-13 Davao scored contrasting victories in the resumption of the 1st Davao Football Association (DFA) U-16 Girls Football League at Tionko and Faith Academy fields over the weekend.
Medvil FC shutout SOS, 7-0, on Saturday behind the heroics of Agot Danton who scored all seven goals for the team. It doubled the feat by nipping the Lady Knights, 4-3, Sunday with goals from Sanaa Jikiri, Nina Arrieta, Nina Lumactad and Jeanella Borje.
Cebu Country Club jumpstarts title bid in PAL Interclub with 123 points in Day 1 of men’s division
DAVAO City — Cebu Country Club kicked off its title bid on a strong note, firing 123 points at the Rancho Palos Verdes for second place in the opening round of the PAL Interclub men’s regular tournament championship division.
CCC, which beat Canlubang last year for second place in the premier division, trails Alabang by one point after the first round and is tied with defending champion Del Monte. Canlubang is sitting out this year’s tournament. Manila Southwoods is fourth at 103.
20,000 expected in Sports Festival
CLOSE to 20,000 kids are expected to strut their wares during the 3rd Sports Festival set from May 17 to 20 at the South Road Properties.
These kids are members of the Cebu City Sports Commission grassroots sports program, which has been ongoing since late January. These kids are from the different barangays of Cebu City.
