City fire department lacks people, equipment By Christine Mae Pelayo
THE Bureau of Fire Protection in Bacolod City lacks manpower and fire-fighting equipment, a survey of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
Councilor Pepito Malapitan, chairman of the City Council committee on social defense and fire, said he will discuss the DILG's findings with City Fire Chief Jerry Candido.
We will draw up measures to address these concerns, he said.
The BFP recorded 449 fire incidents in Bacolod City from January to June 2002. As of June, the fire damaged cost reached P32.875 million.
In July, 22 fire incidents were recorded with damages amounting to P.5 million.
Last month, there were six residential fires, four of which were caused by negligence.
Two fire incidents were caused by burning candles while another was caused by a lighted cigarette. |
