School uses another gate to avoid tricycles By Christine Mae Pelayo
PERSONNEL and students of the John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod (JBLCF-B) have used the school's new gate in front of the Bacolod Memorial Park along the Alijis Road to avoid a conflict with the tricycle drivers and operators.
The drivers have reportedly harassed the school's students after they boycotted the Barangay Alijis tricycles to dramatize their protest to the divers' and operators' call to stop the entry of jeepneys inside their school.
The Greenplains-Pauline-Paghidaet-Katilingban Tricycle and Trisikad Operators-Drivers Association Inc. had earlier sought the annulment of City Ordinance 305, which allows Alijis-Central Market public utility vehicle to pass through the JBLCF-B as part of their via route.
The group believes that the ordinance is disadvantageous to its operations. They named Mayor Luzviminda Valdez, Vice Mayor Ramiro Garcia and the councilors as respondents.
Liga ng mga Barangay president Pepito Malapitan, Alijis village head, said the livelihood of the tricycle drivers and the vendors at the main gate of JBLCF-B were affected because of the closure.
The school's main gate will be closed until the case is settled.
Moreover, Malapitan defended the ordinance which, he said, was not approved hastily.
"A public hearing was conducted and it went through the first, second, third and last readings," Malapitan said. |
