THE second round of the Your Basketball Athletic Club Barkadahan basketball tournament unfolds Monday at the Manville Royale Gym.
Battling at the 5:45 p.m. assignment are the Thunderbird Five and Motolite; Caltex vs. Eagle, 6:45 p.m.; and the Toyota-B Meg tussle at 7:45 p.m.
In the first round, Thunderbird Power Feeds gave product rival B Meg Derby Kings its second loss with a 71-60 win overshadowing Caltex-Havoline's 77-71 twice-extended victory over Eagle Cooking Oil.
Motolite Excel likewise overhauled Toyota Partsman in a rough contest, 54-47, for a 3-1 card and a chance to tie league leader Thunderbirds as the first two rounds of eliminations ends tonight. A win for the Power Feeds assures them of a final slot regardless of the outcome in the second round.
Embo Cañete and Jun Ballesteros controlled the boards as Henry Doble, Melvin Baclay and Nene Lapore provided the points to lead 40-26 at halftime after a 5-0 surge from tip-off.
Kings' Rene Villacanas hit 22 and Jack Mino, 20, but Val Resuma got clamped getting most of his 12 points from the stripes.
Excels Frankie Tan scored 22 points and come-backing Tony Belonio added 10 points in stopping Toyota after a 26-all first half action.
Partsman Dennis Adon was the lone double-digit scorer with 16 as Leonard Santander got injured after hitting three 3-pointers. The Eagles had a chance to win in regulation but Francis Padriga missed his freethrows allowing the Energizers to win in double overtime after trailing, 20-30, at lemon time. |
